Cotton Monster Interview
Say hello to Cotton Monster whom I am so excited to see again this weekend in DC for Crafty Bastards!
What is your favorite part about working in this medium?
I use mostly old clothing to make my monsters, i love the process of deconstructing ugly sweatshirts and pants and corporate logo clad polo shirts and remaking them into something otherworldly! I love the softness, stretch and pliability of the fabrics!
What is your background?
I went to the Maryland Institute College of Art and studied fibers, but have been sewing and making weird creatures since childhood! I started Cotton Monster shortly after I graduated in 2004 and have been monstering (and puppeting) ever since!
Favorite crafty tool?
My hemostats! Couldn't stuff those teeth without 'em!

Favorite fall activity?
Making butternut squash soup and roasting the seeds! mmmmmm....
Did you have any inspiration behind the toys you are submitting for Plush You!?
I was inspired by my love of sea monsters and Halloween! I think this monster could be the Mama to all those little sea squirmies I made for a Plush You exclusive a while back!!
