Devout Dolls Interview
Say hello to Sara Lanzillota of Devout Dolls. Sara lives right here in Seattle and I am so excited she is joining us again for Plush You!
What is your favorite part about working in this medium?
I love the magic of taking a flat piece of fabric, with no shape or history to it, and transforming it into a 3-D object. Every time I do it, it still amazes me.
What is your background?
I'm a self-taught artist. I never went to art school or any kind of college, just the school of Hard Knocks at the College of Life (gads, I'm corny!). Don't use me as a role model though! Kids stay in school!

Favorite crafty tool?
I use wacky surgical tools for all kinds of odd jobs. My favorite is a pair of hemostat that I used for stuffing and turning tiny things.
Favorite fall activity?
Talking a walk in my neighborhood to look at all the changing trees. I love fall colors. It also means soup weather so I like to cook up giant barrels full of delicious soups and fresh bread.
Did you have any inspiration behind the toys you are submitting for Plush You!?
This time around I was super inspired by the classic "Aunt Grace" embroidery patterns. In particular the animals and the Days of the Week sets where it shows things like "Mondays are for Mending", and "Tuesdays are for Cleaning".
