Meet Plush You! artist: Plushroom Soup

This is Jessica.  I feel like I know a lot about her and I guess I do more than some as she has come out for Plush You! several times so I have been able to spend some qt with her eating breakfast and hanging out.  I know she loves to read, wants a farm and makes really cute plush.  After this, you should know more too.

Tell my readers a bit about yourself
I am a self-taught creature creator who loves faery tales, mythology, nature, and the moon. My favorite subject to explore through plush is mythology, including faery and folk tales, which are like more modern myths. I like to infuse my take on these with pop culture references and my own strange sense of humor. I like things that are just a little off-kilter. I also like challenging traditional notions like plush needs to be cute, or that plush is only for children. I want more people to embrace the quirky. We're all a little bit odd, and that's okay.

What do you love most about making plush toys?
It still totally amazes me that you can take some flat, thin fabric and a bunch of fluff and create a 3D toy with personality all its own. The best moment is turning the toy right side out for the first time; it always feels like a bit of magic.

Is this your full time job?
Not yet--I'm an editor by day. I enjoy my job, but I can't wait to work for myself some day.

What sites do you look at for inspiration?
Most of my plush inspiration comes from books, historical dramas (I'm a HUGE Masterpiece Theater nerd), and my peers on the Plush Team. But I do check out the Plush You blog regulary! I also like the Purl Bee for general craftiness and The Sew Weekly for clothing (someday I will master sewing my own clothing!).

Did you do anything fun for the summer?
It's finally MN State Fair time! We have the largest (or second largest, depending on how you look at it) fair in the nation, and I'm totally obsessed with it. It's one of the few things I actually like about summer. I also launched a new biz (Stardust Stitches), spent a lot of quality time with friends, worked on farms (yes, it's actually fun!), and read a lot of books.
